A New Season of Gatherings, March 2015

VFBP Banner

Welcome to 2015 and a new season of Dutch Oven Gatherings. We have confirmed the 2nd Saturday of every month as our DOG Day at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.  For those that will be joining us for the first time don’t worry about having to cook but we do invite you to do so. There will be plenty of members on hand to help you out with any questions you might have. One change this year is that we will start cooking at 10:00 AM and plan on a noon-time meal so that we have more time to socialize or be able to depart a bit earlier in the day. Hopewell View to North

Little Mexico LogoWe are adding more events this year. So, if you can’t make one of our DOG’s at Hopewell there are some other events you might be interested in. First of all, September 12 – 13 instead of meeting at Hopewell we will be joining the Susquehanna Iron Masters and The Dutch Oven Guys for a Dutch Oven Gathering camping event at Little Mexico Campgrounds which is about a 2-1/2 hour drive from the Downingtown area. Check out their website at http://littlemexico.net/. We’ll post other events as soon as we get the dates confirmed.

This will be an opportunity to meet other Dutch oven cooks from up and down the East Coast. They’ll also have a 1-Pot  Dutch Oven Cook-Off. This will be a fun introduction to a bit of competitive cooking. No stringent rules except for food safety and it should be a good deal of fun. Cabela’s will be providing prizes for the event. Camp Chef will be a sponsor as well as Thermoworks and a few others to be announced later.

We look forward to seeing everyone April 11th At Hopewell Furnace. We meet at the Tenant Quarters. Look for the IDOS banner on Clement Brook Ln off of PA RT 345. Follow the road around to the parking area.

  1. Is the April gathering the first this year?

  2. Yes it is Mark. We intentionally decided to skip March because the weather has just been so erratic. I think we made a call but you never know when dealing with Mother Nature.

  3. Will there be a central fire? Can you give a ballpark about how much to make? Your post said serving staff and members. Would you suggest a 10 inch or 12 inch pot? I’m planning to attend and cook. Really looking forward to it.
